Mike Bloomer is professional musician with decades of experience in Florida. He performs several stringed instruments (bass, cello, and guitar) for weddings, private parties and corporate events frequently. His shows cover a wide range of musical styles (jazz, rock, classical, and more). Few performers in town can offer such a blend of music variety for his audiences to enjoy.
When Mike earned is BA in Double Bass Performance from the University of Illinois in 1989 he quickly began performing with orchestras, jazz trios and different music ensembles. He is still playing the upright bass and electric bass in professional bands such as "The Dave Capp Project" in town and enjoys it very much.
As a teacher Mike is giving private lessons to children and adults at the “Music Shack” on Tuesdays and “Music and Arts” on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. “Seeing my students improve their skills and enjoy the process of making music is what it is all about.” If you are interested in lessons for violin, guitar, cello or bass please contact Mike today or visit the web links page of this website.
Mike began his journey with the cello in 2006 while teaching his orchestra class. A student’s cello string broke and needed to be replaced. Once he tuned the instrument and played it, he knew it was something he could do. From there he obtained his first cello, took lessons, and got gigs playing on the street for tips or wherever he could find work. Playing different styles of music on the cello comes easily to him. He asserts “the cello can do anything a great singer can do and is able to capture the heart the audience.” Using rich effects the sound of Mike’s cello is modern and beautiful. Mike adds guitar and vocals to his performances to add variety and enjoyment. Lately he also works with some wonderful female vocalists in town and when performing as a entertaing and powerful duo.
Exciting collaborations with other excellent musicians include performing improvisational world music with Dominic Gaudious (guitar, didjeridoo) and Jeremy Birdsall (fretless electric bass). Segments of these performances can be heard under the “Listen to Mike” audio samples labeled “World Music 1 & 2”. Recent performances with other excellent musicians also include Brad Sayre and Ken Epperson. Providing music for weddings is really booming these days.
New restaurant venues are now opening up for Mike to perform which is great. To find out where he is performing find out on his FaceBook page.
Finally, Mike says, “People want to hear songs they know and enjoy. When it’s time to relax and enjoy life for a while, the right song makes all the difference." I'm constantly adding new songs to my shows. I look forward to performing for you!”
